Lee's Trip on Cyclone

Having only ever been to Sharm and dived from day boats you could say I was excited from the minute I heard that I had the opportunity to join Cyclone for a week

Leaving cold, wet England behind we landed in Sharm to be met by Taymar from the local representatives – we had a chance to say hello to each other as we waited for the rest of the group to arrive Taymar issued us our visas.

A short while later all armed with our luggage we made our way outside to join the coach for the short journey to the international port where we would be boarding Cyclone.

Then it was time to board Cyclone – and how beautiful she looked since her recent refurbishment. Off to our cabins to unpack the few items of clothing that we had with us and then back up to the lounge to really start the holiday. Sunday morning arrives and bleary eyed we all gathered, excited about our first dive of the week and looking forward to the briefing. This was conducted by Reda and Sergio who showed us a plan of the dive and then a list of what we could expect to see + a short video on the plasma screen.

Resort

As this was our check dive for the week none of us had high expectations. It was a chance to check our weights, play with all the new toys that had been bought and check camera housing in anticipation for the rest of the week – how wrong could we be!! Our check dive was carried out at Ras Katy, a well sheltered site ideal for check dives. 10 minutes into the dive in amazement and awe we saw a 3 / 4 metre whale shark – this majestic creature was swimming along oblivious to us all – I don’t think any of us were as calm – it was the last thing we had expected to see but wow what a sight – a lesson to us all, remember your camera even on check dives.

You can imagine how we all felt when we finished the dive and got back on Cyclone – excited and amazed what a totally incredible start to the week – how were we going to top it!!
